I am currently a student in an EMT Academy and I bought this Quick Study guide to help me remember important facts at any given moment. This guide opens up to have six pages of information. Everything is easily read and easy to find. The information includes everything from patient assessment, medical and legal issues, communications, documentation, scene size up and management, anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, pediatric and geriatric differences, pharmacology, toxicology, hazardous materials, environmental emergencies and anatomical medical terminology. I rate this item at five stars because it has been an asset to my developing skills as an EMT.

Excellent Resource Book for Beauty Jouralists

As a beauty writer, I consider this book my new bible. Each cosmeceutical ingredient has its own entry and each entry is packed with useful information and references. Entry sections include: source, history, chemistry, oral uses, topical uses, safety issues, environmental impact, formulation considerations, usage considerations, background and more. The writing is clear and comprehensive and the book is very well organized, making it easy for me to find the info I need--and fast.

A Must Have for Anyone Seriouly Interested in Skin Care

This book about cosmetic ingredients should benefit anyone with a serious interest in skin care, including dermatologists, cosmetic chemists, aestheticians and keen lay people. The author discusses the research on many ingredients, including some of the most commonly recognized, such as the retinoids, vitamins C and E, aloe, resveratrol (a red wine component), petrolatum, silicones and honey. The text, although unique, is easily understood, and by separating fact from fiction allows insight into cosmeceutical claims. The author's straightforward and unbiased approach toward skin care makes this an excellent reference text. The well-placed overviews, such as those on pigmentation, aging and acne, combined with chapters on, for example, skin structure and cosmetic labeling, lift this text beyond its encyclopedic nature.

The information in the book is rather undetailed. It does, however, cover most of the standard ingredients and gives much interesting stuff to read. In my point of view books in this price category should be a bit thicker than 400 pages; other scientific books I use for my studies are three to five times as thick. Nevertheless I like the book and it does indeed give useful information about cosmetics in general.

Readers will sympathize with Lyddie's hardships and admire her determination to create a better life for herself. About the Author
Katherine Paterson has written numerous children's book including Lyddie, The Tale of the Mandarin Ducks, and Jip, His Story. Her books have received much acclaim and been published world-wide. Among her many literary honors are two Newbery Medals and two National Book Awards. She received the 1998 Hans Christian Andersen Medal as well as the 2006 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for the body of her work. She lives with her husband, John, in Barre, Vermont. They have four children and seven grandchildren.

What the book is about and what I liked.

Lyddie is a book about a young girl facing obstacles while working in a mill, trying to earn money to keep her family's barn and reunite her family. My favorite thing about this book is that as the story unravels, Lyddie becomes an inspiring character. In spite of overwhelming odds, she manages to find a measure of independence, happiness, and education which she has yearned for.This book deals with working conditions, child labor, and sexual harassment. Katherine Paterson allows readers to learn how the life of a female young adult working in the mills would be like back in that era. I read this book back in 7th grade and I suggest kids who are in the 7th grade NOW to read it.

Lyddie

This is a wonderful book to introduce young people today to "how it was" in an earlier time. Katherine Paterson brings a young girl to life who is determined, smart, and who has a steadfast work ethic. You want to cry when she is separated from her family to work, and at the same time admire her and laugh with joy at her ability to defend herself and continue to hope for her family to be together again. My Grandma was a weaver back in the early 1900's, and I read a chapter of this to her each week. She loved it, too. It's a book I've given to all of my nieces, as well.

I am teaching Lyddie for the first time this year. It is part of the NYS common core curriculum, and I am reading it to 7th grade boys - the best review I can give it is they were enthralled as I read the first chapter to them! I read the whole book and I loved it! It's a captivating story that keeps you wondering throughout if she will ever get her family back together.

Dispel all false notions of who Rice is

Nola Cancel asks the questions that draw the most thoughtful, the most candid, and the most heartfelt responses from this celebrated author and public figure, Anne Rice. It is easy to dismiss Rice as "that vampire author." Here, we get a pure glimpse of Rice, and, I think, coupled with the spiritual memoir Called Out of Darkness, we will get to know this woman who is at once extraordinary and yet very human just like the rest of us.

This is an inspiring work! Anne has both swimming pool shod feet firmly planted on the ground. We see her honesty, generosity, and spunk.

Interesting interview.

I could be biased because I am an Anne Rice fan, however I did find the book interesting. The reader gets another view of the author. I appreciate that the interviewer kept a good balance between professionalism and Mrs. Rice's private life. I appreciate not getting lost in the scope of the subjects discussed. Anne Rice simply told the interviewer her ideas on whatever topic came up and there was not any invasion of privacy at any point or attacks on Rice's beliefs. It was a good interview.

I've followed Anne's career for well over 30 years. I find her personally and professionally inspiring, I've read the bios, the Michael Riley book and numerous interviews. With Nola, there's a real warmth present between interviewer and subject. A trust, that comes across on each page as a friend responding to a friend, yet meant for public consumption. Anne discusses it all - spirituality and religion, culture and inspiration - and it's as if we're hearing her thoughts, stories and opinions for the first time. Nola elicits a depth to these proceedings that is stunningly rare today. A fantastic job in a smartly put-together volume. A notable effort.

Just As Expected.. Shallow And So Typically Self-Absorbed!

Although I certainly didn't expect to read a book that was worthy of the caliber of say, Carole Radziwill, I was hoping to gain a bit of insight on why Ramona is, well the way she is. I will admit through the ramblings of someone whose daughter displays more common sense then she, I did find my answer. Ramona is a self-absorbed, shallow woman who values the material trappings in life more than what truly is important. It also seems that instead of learning valuable lessons from the difficulties she experienced pertaining to her father, all she seemed to derive from that was the importance of making money. I would have thought she would have also learned from his example how to treat others with respect and kindness - something which I have never seen on RHONY. Seems to me she was out to make a quick buck, and with Ramona, talking about herself was the most appealing way to do so.

The adjectives!

If you are a fan of RHONY you need to read this book. It could change your opinion of Ramona. You might even like her (a little bit) when you are done. But the adjectives! Way too many. And they make her sound conceited, vain and egotistical....which I guess she is. A "stainless steel strainer"? Mine is collapsible plastic. She set the table with her "Antique gold Minton china"? If I have over twelve people I use "square shaped black heavy duty plastic" I guess I'm doing it wrong. She did not described her toilets......yet....(I'm only half through the book) But I'm sure they are "luxury gleaming white porcelain". Sadly, mine are just plain white Kohler.

Definitely Recommended to Fans of the Show

I really enjoyed reading Ramona's book. It's conversational and an easy light read. She doesn't give much dirt about the show, but definitely takes us behind the scenes a bunch of times.

What I love about her is you always know where you stand. She often blurts out what she feels, however thoughtless and unfeeling on occasion, but will honestly re-evaluate when she realizes her mistake. And it's completely understandable how she came to be the personality she is when you read about her childhood. Her father's drinking and unpredictable terrorizing would have me in a frequent state of triggered hyperarousal as an adult, too, and that's how she has not infrequently seemed to me on the show--triggered into irrational states of fight or flight.

I was so impressed to learn what a great business woman she's been since she was very young. I never picked that up, the fact that she was actually bringing in more money than Mario before the show started, with her business of selling inventoried merchandise.

Although I have often inwardly groaned when she would say insulting things or act oblivious to other people's feelings, I've always felt she had a big heart and never intentionally set out to screw anyone else over, unlike others on the show who actually sat down and planned how to bring other women down. Ramona never did that. She's just being Ramona and that's who you get in this book.

Definitely recommended for fans of the show.

Revel's Work

Dr Revel has written several books about the slide of socialism to despotism. His work is particularly interesting because he is a committed member of the political left. Dr Revel explores the history of socialist parties, socialist activists and the outcome of their efforts as well as their unwillingness to condemn even the obvious evils of any system which describes itself as socialist. He argues that the left must figure out how to sustain the productivity of capitalism while ensuring and developing social programs. His books are compelling.

Dated but pointed

I found that this book contained a number important points that we may be forgetting now that the Cold War is fading into history. In particular, Revel focuses on how the totalitarian Soviet government had a great number of advantages over the western democracies, and how these advantages were used time and time again to ensure small but inevitable victories over the west. Most important were the Soviet's abilities to avoid media coverage of, and internal and external criticism for, its acts; its ability to embark on courses of actions which are not politically expedient, but will bear fruit decades hence; and its ability to be the aggressor.
Such advantages lead the Soviets to a number of small victories over the fifty-year war. Revel correctly pointed out that the west really had few victories over the Soviets before the communist economy finally crumbled a decade ago. For example, the Cuban missile crisis and the Korean war were merely draws for the west, precisely because everything returned to how it was before. Yet Vietnam and Poland were clear victories for the Soviets.
This is a solid work that accurately points out some of the weaknesses of democracies when fighting against totalitarians, and just how close we came to losing the struggle against communism.

Democracy's failures

This book was excellant. I enjoyed the contrary veiws. Having a contrary thought every now and then is very refreshing. Like his other book, Totalitarian Temptation, this one gives a lot of thought on the problems that liberty, freedom and equality bring. I recommend it for debate, high school and college, and suggest it to anyone who feels that no government is perfect. It tends to be wordy, but that almost makes it better, or at least, gives many different ways to interpet his ideas. His arguements at first appear opposite of American beleifs, but if you really concentrate and want to read it, it will give you an excellant understanding of goverment.

FANTASTIC BOOK FOR THE BEGINNER

Simplified Anatomy for the Comic Book Artist is comic art instruction Guru Christopher Hart's latest book and one of his best yet. Hart has been doing comic art instruction books for many years with a long list of titles to his credit. In this latest book, Hart tackles the modern, more simplified, and streamlined comic book art. Inspired by recent animated series such as Batman, Teen Titans, and Justice League, we are seeing more and more comics today being produced in this more simplified, animated looking style. This modern style has done a couple of things for the comic industry. First, it's far less time consuming to produce this type of art than traditional comic art...less time means less money. Second, and no knock on those artists, but obviously you can get away with somewhat less talent with this style as there is a minimum of detail required. Finally, much of this art today is being produced on computer, again saving time and money. This certainly accounts for the recent popularity of this style of art.

Hart takes a step-by-step approach to his instructions. On one page he shows an example of a piece of art done in traditional style and next to it, the same piece done in the simplified style. Basically this is simply a matter of less definition being added to the character. Less muscle definition, fewer or no bone structure outlines to the face and body, hair designed as "one piece" as opposed to drawing several lines of hair and curls, etc...The examples are striking in their sheer minimalism.

Now, this isn't merely a matter of taking out lines, but rather a complexly different approach to drawing figures. There's a whole change in thinking about how to construct the anatomy in this approach. Remember, you're not going for realism anymore. Fully the first 50 pages are spent just on the head and facial features. Hart will show you how to simplify the look of the eyes, nose, and mouth with dozens of examples included along the way.

Next up is the body and it's the same process as before. Simple bone and skeletal structures, simple muscle definition... Again, Hart shows dozens of examples of body types from heroes to regular guys to mad scientists. In this style, bodies are more angular...the hips and knees often come to an exaggerated point as opposed to the rounder look of traditional comic art. In defining muscles, that standard six-pack now becomes a two-pack...the shoulders and chest exceedingly broad and triangle-shaped.

Hart rounds out the book with a look at forced perspective, getting your characters to look like they are virtually jumping out of the page at you. Honestly, I believe that this book and this style of art has opened up a lot of doors to artists who maybe were not quite good enough to make it with traditional comic art. It's also allows small press publishers to compete against the bigger publishers. Heck, you even see this style of artwork showing up at major publishers like Image and Dark Horse.

It's another well-done book by Hart and perfect for the aspiring comic book artist.

If you know what your doing

If you have never drawn comics and are not much of an artist then this book is not for you. Being someone that does not draw very well this book did not help me much. The only bad thing about this book is consistency due to the many different artists that worked on it. With that in mind this book is well worth having and a good resource about the adventure or Bruce Timm style of drawing.

thankfully it written in two parts, skip part one.

Part one only list off major actors and characters in the developing EU, great if you know some back gourd but if you don't there is noting in the text to help draw any conclusions.

Part 2 is far more interesting. If you can make it through Part 1

Do your self a favor read part too, skip through part 1 I suggest first line of each paragraph and then look to the EU web sight for real insight.
